Schedule Of Archery Events

The archery events in London Olympics 2012 will flag off on 27 July 2012 and conclude on 3 August 2012. All archery events will be held at Lord's Cricket Ground in St. John's Wood, north-west London. This famous cricket ground in England is situated near Regent's Park. Although archery dates back to 10,000 years, the modern version of this sport is now practiced in more than 140 countries around the world. The objective of the sport is simple - shoot arrows as close to the center of a target as possible. The distance between the shooter and the target is 70 meters. An Olympic archery target is 122 centimeters in diameter, with a gold ring at the center. Archery was included in the Olympics at Paris 1900, but was later dropped from the programme after the 1908 Games, and then returned for a single game in 1920. At Munich Games in 1972, the sport was reinstated after a 52-year gap and has remained on the Olympic programme ever since.
