Game
Artistic gymnastics is performed individually or in teams and there are separate competitions held for men and women. Participants have to perform on individual apparatus to win gold. Each apparatus is made a separate category. Men compete on pommel horse, floor, rings, parallel bars, vault, and horizontal bar while women compete on uneven bars, vault, floor and balance beam. The overall top 24 gymnasts are declared eligible to proceed further and participate in the all-around final. The top eight scorers in each apparatus category are declared eligible to participate in individual apparatus finals. Only a maximum of two competitors per nation can compete in either the all-around or apparatus finals.

Scoring
The performances of the participants are rated by two panels of judges. One of these panels rate the degree of difficulty or start value, while the other panel considers other aspects like execution, composition and artistry. Strength, flexibility, and balance are considered as the keys to success in this breathtakingly artistic and hugely competitive sport. Earlier the scoring were done on the basis of 10 but now, it is left open ended with highest score usually coming upto 15-17.
