Schedule Of Fencing Events

As a famous combat sports performed using bladed weapons, the popularity of fencing is increasing day by day. This tense, testing sport is greatly admired by people and is featured at every Olympic Games. Though the history of this game dates back to thousands of years ago, fencing became popular sport in 19th century. Fencing was an event in 1896 Olympics, the first modern Olympics. Epee made its debut at Paris Olympics in 1900, whereas Women's fencing was featured first at the 1924 Games. Since 1573, after Henri de Saint-Didier, a pioneer of the sport published a manuscript on this game, which included most of the terms for the moves; French has been the language of fencing. In Olympics, this game is performed using three types of weapons - foil, sabre and epee. Interestingly, Italy's Nedo Nadi became the only fencer ever to win a gold medal with all three weapons in single Olympic Games, who won gold in all three at Antwerp Olympics in 1920. London will witness fencing match at ExCeL from 28th July - 5th August.

Game
Each game consists of two participants, each of whom pits two fencers against each other in a dancing like combat, which is as beautiful as a theatrical production. Each match consists of three-minute bouts. The contestant, who posts 15 touches or performing most hits after three rounds, is declared the winner.

Scoring
Scoring is done on the basis of or 'hitting' the opponents with the tip or blade of your sword. The sword is wired to a buzzer which indicates the contact by making sound, on a valid target area. This target area is the opponent's body in case of in the foil, everything above the waist (excluding hands) in case of and whole body in case of epee. The score is recorded with the help of an electrical scoring apparatus.
