Speed Skating debuted in the Olympics in the 1924
Chamonix Mont Blanc Winter Summer Games. Short track speed skating
was inducted in the Olympic schedule in the 1992 Albertville Winter
Games. Winter Olympics have witnessed the making of several records
in Men's Skating.
Skating Records in Olympics - Men's
- Dong-Sung Kim of Korea holds the current Olympic record in
men's 1500 meter short track skating event. His timing was
2:15.942 and the games were 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Summer
Games.
- Olympic record holders of men's 5000 meter relay skating
events are Koreans Hyun-Soo Ahn, Ho-Suk Lee, Ho-Jin Seo and
Suk-Woo Song. The timing was 6:43.376 and the games were 2006
Turin Winter Summer Games.
- Casey Fitzrandolph of USA holds the current Olympic record in
men's 500 meter speed skating. The timing was 34.42 and the
games were 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Summer Games.
- Gerard Van Velde of the Netherlands holds the current Olympic
record in men's 1000 meter speed skating. The timing was 1:07.18
and the games were 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Summer Games.
- Jochem Utydehaage of the Netyherlands holds the current
Olympic records in men's 5000 meter and 10000 meter speed
skating. Made in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Summer Games,
the timings were 6:14.66 and 12:58.92 in the 5000 meter and
10000 meter events respectively.
- Italian team of Matteo Anesi, Enrico Fabris and Ippolito
Sanfratello holds the Olympic record in the men's team pursuit 8
laps skating event. Timing recorded by the team is 3:43.64
seconds and the games were 2006 Turin Winter Olympics.
- Marc Gagnon of Canada holds the current Olympic record in
men's 500 meter short track skating. The time taken was 41.802
and the games were 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games.
- Hyun-Soo Ahn of Korea holds the Olympic record in men's 1000
meter short track skating. His timing was 1:26.739 and the games
were 2006 Turin Winter Summer Games.
- Derek Parra of the United States holds the Olympic record in
men's 1500 meter speed skating event. With a timing of 1:43.95
the Olympic record was made in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter
Summer Games.
