Weightlifting debuted in the first modern Summer
Games in 1896 Summer Games. Initially, it had three disciplines -
press, snatch and clean-and-jerk. However, after 1972, only two
disciplines remained: snatch and clean-and-jerk. Halil Mutlu, Taner
Sagir, Hossein Rezazadeh, and Nurcan Tylan are the famous
weightlifters in the Olympics.
Olympic Records in Weightlifting - Men
- Taner Sagir of Turkey holds the current Olympic records in
men's 77 kilogram weightlifting and 77 kilogram-snatch eventsy.
The record was attained in the 2004 Athens Summer Games when he
lifted a weight of 375.0 kilogram in the 77 kilogram
weightlifting event with a weight of 172.5 kilogram in the 77
kilogram-snatch event.
- Hossein Rezazadeh of Iran holds the current Olympic records
in men's 105+ kilogram weightlifting, 105+ kilogram-snatch and
105 kilogram+ clean and jerk events. The records were made in
the 2000 Sydney Summer Games. He lifted a weight of 472.5
kilogram in the 105+ kilogram event.
- Halil Mutlu of Turkey currently holds Olympic records in
men's 56 kilogram weightlifting, 56 kilogram-snatch and 56
kilogram-clean and jerk events. He lifted a weight of 305
kilogram in the 56 kilogram event. In the 56 kilogram-snatch and
56 kilogram-clean and jerk, Mutlu lifted 137.5 kilogram and
167.5 kilogram, respectively. The feat was attained in the 2000
Sydney Summer Games.
- Galabin Boevski of Bulgaria holds the current Olympic record
in men's 69 kilogram weightlifting event. The weight picked up
by him in 2000 Sydney Summer Games was 357.5 kilograms. He is
the holder of the Olympic record for 69 kilogram-clean and jerk
event where he lifted 195.0 kilogram.
- Dmitriy Berestov of Russia holds the current Olympic record
in men's 105 kilogram-snatch. The event was 2004 Athens Summer
Games. He picked up a weight of 195.0 kilogram in the event.
- Xugang Zhan of China holds the Olympic record in the men's 77
kilogram-clean and jerk event. The weight lifted by him was
207.5 kilogram and the event was the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
- Zhiyong Shi of China owns the current Olympic record in men's
62 kilogram-snatch event. The record was attained in the 2004
Athens Summer Games. Zhiyong picked up a weight of 152.5
kilogram in the snatch event.
- Georgi Markov of Bulgaria holds the current Olympic record in
men's 69 kilogram-snatch event by picking 165.0 kilogram weight.
The event was 2000 Sydney Summer Games.
