List of gold medals won in fencing since the inclusion of the sport in the modern Olympics in 1896.
Fencing
It was in the modern Olympics of 1896, held in Athens, that the dueling sport of fencing was first included and has remarkably been a regular feature in every following Olympics since then. Out of the 191 gold medals awarded out so far, Italy has won the most, 45 and is leading the tally, followed closely by France who is second with 41, and Hungary, who is third with 34.However, when it comes to all the medals combined, it's France who leads with 115 medals out of 571, with Italy (114) and Hungary (82) at second and third places respectively. The record of winning a gold medal with every weapon is held by Italy's Nedo Nadi, who created it in the 1920 Antwerp Games. In 2012 London Games, 212 fencers, 105 men and 107 women will be competing for the gold and the competition will be held at Excel Arena from 28th July to 5th August.
