Men's Swimming

Introduced in the 1896 Athens Games, swimming has been a part of the Olympics ever since and undergone much transformation: from being an outdoor sport held in a river to being an indoor sport held in a pool. Despite the transformation it is one of the most popular sports in Olympics. In men's category, except for the record time of 3:40.59 min set by Ian Thorpe of Australia in 400m freestyle, all the record times in each event was newly set by swimmers across the world. As of now, USA with 489 medals, out of which 214 are gold, is at the top of the medals tally. In the 2012 London Games, 950 swimmers will take part in the competition in as many as 34 events. The competition will be held at Olympic Park - Aquatics Centre and Hyde Park from 28th July to 4th August.
