Media Operations

Media Services Division of the Media Operations Department looks after critical media services as accommodation, accreditation, transportation, rate card, catering, technology and telecommunications. Media Services Division would offer immediate help for functional areas. For proper media operations in China, these services have been provided in the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Foreign Media Service Guide
Foreign Media Service Guide has been launched to facilitate foreign media organizations and foreign journalists to report on the Beijing Olympic Games. The guide covers matters as visa application, customs clearance, travel and interview, employment of Chinese mainland citizens, rental of housing and offices, application for radio frequency occupation, acquisition of a temporary driving permit, taxation and insurance. The guide apprises foreign journalists on regulations on reporting activities in China by foreign journalists during the Beijing Olympic Games and the preparatory period.

Olympic New Service
The Olympic News Service (ONS) has been entrusted with the task for providing media with comprehensive information services about the Olympics. Information provided to the media includes pre-Games information such as athlete biographies and statistics. The ONS would also provide previews, reviews, flash quotes, press conference highlights.

Venue Media Centres (VMCs)
Standard facilities and services have been provided in the Venue Media Centres (VMCs). The VMCs have been set up in all 37 competition venues, both in Beijing and co-host cities. VMCs would also operate in three non-competition venues, the Olympic Village, Media Villages and the IOC Hotel. The VMCs provide the journalists with best possible conditions to cover the Olympics.

The Beijing 2008 Press Rate Card offers a detailed list of products and services available to assist the operations of media organizations.

Main Press Centre (MPC)
Main Press Centre (MPC) in Beijing, equipped with all necessary facilities and offering 24-hour services, is the centre workplace for media operations. It is the headquarters of all press operations related to the Olympics. The main lobby at the MPC is equipped with comprehensive help desks, including Main Helpdesk, News-desk, Transportation Desk, News-stand, travel information desk, banking, and parcel services. 24-hour technology support would be provided. Rental office spaces, press conference area, photo work area and catering is available.
