Held in a short outdoor track, the BMX Cycling race starts from an 8m high ramp. Racing through a course with jumps, bumps and tightly banked corners, BMX is a highly adventurous sport. BMX cycling made its debut in 2008 Beijing Olympics in which Latvia's Maris Strombergs and France's Anne-Caroline Chausson won the gold. London 2012 Olympics is waiting for this event with a specially constructed track, next to the Velodrome in the Olympic Park. Considering the popular demand, the authorities have made a huge seating capacity of 6000 spectators, allowing maximum sport lovers to view this event. Inspired by motocross, the motorized version of the sport, BMX is the most recent discipline added to the Olympic Games. Interestingly, it is decided that the BMX track will be opened to the public, after the Olympic Games is curtained down. Quota Of Athletes
48 athletes are participating in Cycling-BMX in London Olympics 2012 in 2 medal events.

Game
The Cycling-BMX takes place in short outdoor track with built-up jumps, bumps and tightly banked corners. The game starts with the riders on an 8m-high ramp. This is followed by individual time trial seeding rounds, eight riders compete in heats and each race lasts around 40 seconds. The course as mentioned earlier is not smooth to drive and how the participant manages to overcome the hurdles place in the course forms he keystone of this game. Starting from a manually operated gate and hurtle down a steep slope, who reaches the end point first will win.

Rules
Cyclists should wear long-sleeve tops and bottoms along with other mandates like gloves and helmets full masks (to protect the face). Wear knee and elbow pads are not mandatory but it provides extra protection.

Scoring
Having debuted in 2008 Olympics, this game is a new entrant in Olympics. Knowing the scoring pattern would help you understand this sport better. The 2012 organizers have adapted a new way of scoring to all the top riders meeting in the first rounds. So, the game is planned in such a way that each competitor will ride the course once to determine their seeding and heats will be organized accordingly. Only the top two riders from each heat are eligible to move on to the next round. Points are awarded according to places and then the top two riders who scored maximum points in the first three races in each quarter-final qualify for the semi-finals which follow a three-run format. The top four riders from each semi-final proceed to the final run and thus the medals are decided.

Equipment
The 20-inch wheeled, light aluminum framed bikes are easier to handle. It has wide handlebars for balance, but only one gear and one brake. Wheels are usually of 20-inch diameter, which are about two-thirds the wheel size of a standard road bike. Because the bikes have to race a tough course, it should be strong enough to endure the wear and tear from the jarring landings after jumps, but should not compromise on weight as it has to be fast and competitive.
