Women's Coxless Pairs rowing competition was first held at Olympic games in 1976. Siyka Kelbecheva and Stoyanka Kurbatova-Gruicheva of Bulgaria won gold, Angelika Noack and Sabine Dähne of Est Germany won silver while Edith Eckbauer-Baumann and Thea Einöder-Straube of West Germany won the bronze medal in the opening competition.
