London Olympics Schedule

As London gears up for the 'biggest logistical peacetime exercise' Britain has ever seen - The London Olympics 2012 - millions of people are getting ready to flock to the UK to witness as to what is hailed as the grandest event on the earth.The Games of the XXX Olympiad will be held in London, United Kingdom from 27 July to 12 August 2012. Preceding a bid supervised by ex-Olympic titleholder Sebastian Coe, London was chosen as the host city for 2012 Summer Olympics on 6 July 2005, during the 117th IOC Session in Singapore. London won the bid after defeating other contesting nations like Moscow, Madrid, New York City, and Paris. With this, the city became the first in history to officially host the modern Olympic Games for the third time, having previously done so in the years 1908 and 1948 respectively.

The 2012 Summer Olympic programme boasts of 26 sports and a total of 39 disciplines while the Paralympic Games programme includes 20 sports and 21 disciplines. The games to be included in London Olympics 2012 are :-

The eventful Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in a mixture of venues ranging from the newly constructed ones, existing and historic facilities, and temporary facilities. Some of the events will be held in landmarks of the city such as Hyde Park and Horse Guards Parade. Some of the new facilities will be retained, while others will be resized or relocated. The venues have been primarily divided into three zones - the Olympic Zone, the River Zone and the Central Zone. In addition to these, there are venues located outside Greater London, such as the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy .The football tournament will be staged across several grounds around the UK.
