Badminton in Beijing Olympics
Badminton competitions at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics will begin on August 9 and end on August 17. All competitions will be held at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium.

Schedule of Badminton Competitions

Men's Singles
Round of 64 players will be held on 9 and 10 August, round of 32 players will be held on 11 August, round of 16 players will be held on 12 August, quarter final will be held on 14 August, semifinal on 15 August, competition for Bronze will be on 16 August, and winner of the Gold will be decided on 17 August.

Women's Singles
Round of 64 players will be held on 9 August, round of 32 players on 10 August, round of 16 players on 11 August, quarterfinals on 13 August, semifinals on 15 August, and Bronze/ Gold competition on 16 August.

Men's Doubles
Round of 16 group players will be held on 12 August, quarterfinals on 13 and 14 August, semifinal on 15 August, and Bronze/ Gold competition on 16 August.

Women's Doubles
Round of 16 group players will be held on 10 August, quarterfinals on 11 August, semifinal on 13 August and Bronze/ Gold competition on 15 August.

Mixed Doubles
Round of 16 group players will be held on 12 August, quarterfinals on 14 August, semifinals on 15 August, and Bronze/ Gold competition on 16 August.

Athlete Quota
Athlete quota in the Olympics is 86 men and 86 women, the total of 172 players. As for the draw sizes, in singles it will be the maximum of 64 while in doubles the draw size will be 16.

Qualification System
The World Federation of Badminton or BWF ranking list of 1 May 2008 has been used to determine qualification for the following number of places in each event:
  • Men's singles 38 places
  • Women's singles 38 places
  • Men's doubles 32 places (16 pairs)
  • Women's doubles 32 places (16 pairs)
  • Mixed doubles 32 places (16 pairs)
Total number of places is 172.
