Shenyang Olympic Stadium, one of the four football venues in the co-host cities, is hosting 12 football preliminary matches during the Olympics 2008. The grass in the stadium is a variety which grows in cold climates, suiting the winter in northeast China. The multipurpose venue, built with great speed, is the most modern and visually stunning sports stadium in Shenyang's history. The stadium, which has been dubbed 'Crystal Crown', gives panoramic visual view at night.

Statistics
Shenyang Olympic Stadium has a land surface of 150,000 square meters. The sporting complex has the seat capacity of 60,000 people. It includes a 10,000-seat gymnasium, a 4,000-seat swimming pool complex and a 4,000-seat tennis field. The stadium has been developed with incredible speed.

Facilities
Sunlight panels and glasses at the stadium's roof ensure sufficient indoor light. Two large display screens have been set up at the two stands, measuring 192 square meters each ensuring clear visuals of the matches for the spectators. The stadium is praised for its turf, lighting system, chairs and VIP lounge. Rainfall does not cause any inconvenience in the stadium as the roofs can be fully deployed.

The design of the VIP lounge imparts privacy and comfort. The VIPs can use the chairs outside the lounge to watch the competitions and have meetings behind the glass screen. The lounge is also equipped with a restroom.

The stadium is the centerpiece of a sporting complex. New technologies have been applied to help with structural problems. The stadium is made up of concrete steel structure. The stadium has two spectator stands, having the capacity of 30,000 each.

Pre Olympics Games
The stadium hosted a test event as a part of preparation for the Olympics in July, 2007. It hosted the matches 2007 International Women's Football Tournament.
